Northern Lights. Kent UK December 2023

When walking the dog today a mysterious portal to another world appeared....

I walked the dogs later than usual today due to some work I'd been given that over ran. It was Wuthering heights kind of weather: dark rolling clouds; strong gusty winds; low levels of light as the early winter sunset approached, morphing into an ominously blood red sky

I thought, oh, look at that, I've never seen a weird distorted rainbow like that before. It looked like a petrol slick. You know, the kind you see in puddles of water in the city streets, only this time it was in the sky. For a moment I wondered what it was I was looking at. I thought it was indeed a smudged rainbow. I was trying to think what optical illusion could cause a rainbow to bleed like that, then it dawned on me! It was the Northern lights.

The strange otherwordly colours began to grow and spread across the sky. I have never seen anything like it though I know my daughter saw something similar in the same area a year or so ago.

It didn't cover the whole sky so as soon as I turned 45 degrees in either direction the sky looked perfectly normal. It just hovered like a great big alien portal to another world. A horse neighed as I filmed and I hoped aliens weren't abducting it for weird experiments (Jeesh my imagination hey 🤣).

Sadly, I did have to turn my back on it as I had to collect my daughter from the stables where she keeps her horses. By the time I arrived there the sky in the direction of the northern lights had turned blood red.

Many layers of mystery. Sunset (below) and aurora borealis (above) all in one un filtered un doctored photo. It was the most mystical beautiful evening. I will upload my videos below.
