It's only ten days until Christmas and all I can think about is my December jobs for the garden and my website. Honestly, I really don't have time for Christmas this year. I feel a little burnt out by Christmas anyway. So I am going "lite" on the festivities this time. For me the most exciting part of this month will happen on the 22cnd when we get the shortest day. After that I feel as though I can start looking forward to spring again.
So the jobs I hope to get finished this weekend are laying out my new borders (having almost finished taking the pergola down, which was a pretty dangerous job for one) and then planting them up. To avoid overwhelming myself with my ideas (I always do ) I am just going to plant for May / June ie late spring early summer and I will think about the various seasonal changes once I have them planted up.
I am also hoping to plant up the rest of my sweet pea teepees. At least the ones I intend to do in pots. SO I can just get another job out the way while I tackle the borders. Why now? Because, I have found it makes no difference when you plant up sweet peas, as long as it's roughly between Late summer and spring. I have planted them up as late as April and as early as September and they've been fine. check out the two videos below for my fool proof method of sowing sweet peas. They are ideal instructional videos for beginners.
In addition to these jobs I will be bringing you more videos on the garden. I really want to get my Persicaria video out for you. It's all about persicaria and why I adore it as a cottage garden plant. I will update you on my persicaria orientalis (my new favourite cottage garden plant) and my persicaria bistorta (pink pokers) which I also love!
So make sure you stay tuned for more updates and don't forget, if you're in the UK, the shortest day of the year is nigh! Gardening only get's better once we're over that hill!
